Jamaican Banana Nut Bread Recipe { St. Louis Photographer }

I had some browning bananas that I needed to use up, so I decided to make Jamaican Banana Nut Bread! The super moist cake with contrasts of texture as well of hints of lime and dark rum is pure heaven in the mouth. I first made this delicious treat back in 1998 after my husband and I got married and honeymooned in Negril, Jamaica. (adapted from Cooking Light recipe book) It was a huge hit with my husband and he asks me to make it every Christmas. Well, the holidays came early yesterday. Michael's sisters, Heather and Jules, loved this delight just as much as we do. Thought I'd share this recipe with all of you. Enjoy and if you make it, please let me know what you think.

For the bread:
2 Tbs stick butter, softened
2 Tbs cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup mashed ripe banana (about 2 large bananas)
1/2 cup milk
2 Tbs dark rum
1/2 tsp grated lime rind
2 tsp lime juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup flaked coconut

For the sauce:
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tsp butter
2 tsp dark rum
2 Tbs chopped pecans
2 tbs flaked coconut

* Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat a 8x4" loaf pan with cooking spray; set aside.
* Beat 2 Tbs butter and cheese with electric mixer; add 1 cup sugar, beating well. Add egg; beat well.
* Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; stir well. Add banana and next 5 ingredients, stir well. Stir in 1/4 cup pecans and 1/4 cup coconut.
* Pour batter into prepared pan; bake at 375 degrees for 50-60 minutes (or until toothpick inserted in middle of loaf comes out clean). Let cool in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan. Let cool slightly on wire rack.
* Combine brown sugar and 2 tsp each butter, lime juice and rum in a saucepan; bring to a simmer. Cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in 2 Tbs each pecans and coconut; spoon over loaf.

Caring for your Fine Art Canvas Gallery Wrap { St. Louis Children's Photographer }

I just adore large fine art canvas gallery wraps and I always get a lot of compliments on the ones hanging on the walls in my home. Instant conversation pieces that really stand out. The 3D look of a gallery-wrap is the first thing people notice. You really have to see it in person to get the full effect.

Your favorite image is printed directly onto fine art canvas with archival inks and stretched around a 1-1/2 inch deep frame. From there all of the prints are sprayed with a UV protectant that will seal and prevent the print from fading, cracking or drying out for at least 80-100 years. Once the print is received you can pull it right from the box and place it on the wall, there is no additional framing needed.

Here are a few tips on taking care of your custom work of art.
~ Prints can be wiped with a slightly damp, clean, chemical-free cloth
~ For optimum longevity, keep out of direct sunlight
~ Don’t place stretched prints too close to direct heat or high variations in temperature {cold/warm}
~ Canvas can be tightened if it becomes loose. You can purchase canvas retention at any craft store or on the internet. It can be sprayed on the BACK of the canvas and let dry overnight or for a few hours.
~ Touch up – You can touch up small spots in the canvas with thin-tipped markers if your canvas gets scratched or damaged. Be very careful when touching up specks. Artists can also use paint to touch up small blemishes if needed.

Images that melt my heart { St. Louis Children's Photographer }

I was taking pictures of my daughter just being - well - being my daughter and my heart kept melting. These are the type of images that just do it for me! I had such a great time capturing her as she is. These are the moments I will cherish for always and just make me so happy. I swear, I had a huge smile on my face for hours after taking these pictures and I literally skipped and twirled with delight.

Chicago! Our First Family Vacation!!! { St. Louis Photographer }

We had a wonderful time in the windy city of Chicago (which wasn't actually windy at all while we were there). This was our first official family vacation together where we weren't off visiting family or friends in Kansas. Lily had a great time seeing the sites and we had a great time watching her take it all in.

Lily loved the big buildings.
Had to stop from time-to-time to capture a few for her along the way!

First stop! Navy Pier!
It was just a few blocks from our Hotel, so it was perfect for our first outing on arrival day!

Lily said the ferris wheel was too high, so we took in the view from the ground.

Playing in the fountain was so much fun! Perfect end for our first day in Chicago!
This image just melts my heart! They look SO happy and it's a moment I'll always cherish!

It rained our first night, but by morning, it was BEAUTIFUL! Lily woke up excited and couldn't wait to start the day. First thing...climb up the window for a better view of the city!

We decided to walk instead of taking the L. Best decision!

We stopped at a lot of parks along the way to the Aquarium and History Museum.
Lily loved the whales (sorry, no pics to share here...)
The History Museum was a big hit!

Lily really liked the dinosaurs and of course...the views!

On our way back up north toward our hotel, we stopped for a wine tasting. Lily was tuckered, so while she slept, we enjoyed some adult time.

Had to take a portrait of myself too!

And, of course I had to take a portrait of my love.
This was our 11 year anniversary and those eyes melt me every time I look into them.
Ahhh...how I can't believe how lucky I am to grow old with this man!

Michael had heard about this great German restaurant and boy was it ever delicious!
We left with smiles on our faces, humming Sinatra with bellies full and a new cookbook in tow!
(please tell me we're not the only ones who take pics of the places we eat...)

Our last full day in the 2nd City, we walked up north and enjoyed the sites from the Hancock Center, did some shopping, went to the beach, enjoyed some deep dish pizza and explored the area!

On the way home, we stopped in south city (yes, I know...) and ate at Calumet Fisheries.
I highly recommend it! Best smoked seafood EVER!
After that, we headed on home listening to Counting Crows almost all the way back to St. Louis and counting our blessing along the way!

The image box is here! I'm so excited about this product offering because it's something that I needed for myself. Since becoming a mom, I just don't have the time to keep up with all the photos that I take of my daughter and those family moments that pass by so fast. I used to scrapbook, but that's a thing of the past for me now. I'm just not going to stress about keeping up with it all, so I when I came across these boxes, I was thrilled! I can take all the pics that I want and put my favorites in this amazing image box. Recipe for Country Ribs on the Grill!!!! Enjoy!

Made some yummy country ribs on the grill. Here's the recipe taken from "Grilling ~ Where There's Smoke There's Flavor" by Eric Treuille & Birgit Erath. This is the Spiced Hoisin Ribs recipe found on pg. 48 and a favorite around our house in the summer. I also made some chili rubbed corn on the cob, which is seen behind the ribs in the picture and some baked potatoes not pictured. If you give the recipe a whirl, let me know what you think!

Ingredients:
4 lb pork spareribs or country style ribs
1/2 cup hoisin sauce
1/2 tsp chinese five-spice
4 crushed garlic cloves
2 Tbsp grated fresh ginger root
2 Tbsp medium dry sherry
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 Tbsp hot chinese sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Separate ribs by slicing between the bone with a sharp knife. (I like country ribs because they're boneless!!!!) Simmer ribs in large pan of salted water until just tender, about 30 minutes. Drain. Rinse under cold running water and drain again. Combine all other ingredients and brush mixture over the ribs. Grill over medium-hot coals, turning frequently and basting until brown and crusty, 15 min. ENJOY!

Our session got delayed due to thunderstorms, but we pressed on even in a bit of light rain. I love how his mom dressed him for the session...the red and overalls really popped with our surroundings. The 25th annual St. Patrick's Irish Open, sponsored by Major Brands, is a great fundraiser that helps the St. Patrick Center and I'm very excited to be a part of this great cause.

The St. Patrick Center provides opportunities for self-sufficiency and dignity to persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Individuals achieve permanent, positive changes in their lives through affordable housing, sound mental health, employment and financial stability. St. Patrick Center is the largest provider of homeless services in Missouri with more than 20 programs, serving more than 9,000 persons annually.

The St. Patrick's Irish Open offers an elegant dinner featuring silent and live auctions, followed by one of the area’s most distinguished charity golf tournaments. Dinner and auction takes place on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis. The golf tournament is on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Norwood Hills Country Club.

I had a great time photographing Ms. A's promotional head shots. Her husband and I worked together for almost 9 years in the video world here in St. Louis and are great friends, so when I got the call from his beautiful wife about capturing some images of her for some promotional material (Ms. A happens to be a very talented producer too!), I was thrilled! It's always fun mixing in friendship, laughter, talk, coffee and good food in the equation when working. Oh, and I'm so not used to having an assistant with me on shoots anymore, but it was so nice to have that too... (another benefit of working with two video professionals!) It was great catching up with friends and an honor to capture this beautiful lady!

Another Beautiful Album! { St. Louis Photographer }

I delivered another one of the Luxe Albums over the weekend and as usual, was a bit sad to let it go. I just love these so much!!! I hope the M family will flip through these pages throughout the years and remember how tiny and delicate their lil' one was when he first entered this world. He's such a gem and this is such a great way to keep those treasured images from his newborn session!

The M family picked this beautiful green suede-like cover from the Garbo Collection called Green Room. I think it compliments their images and home decor wonderfully!

It saddened me to hear that Muchana, another one of our loved chimps at the St. Louis Zoo, passed away over the weekend. This follows the death of Cinder two weeks ago. My daughter and I love visiting the chimps and spend much time getting to know our friends over there. Muchana and Cinder will be well missed.

Many of you have heard me talk about my daughter Lily, so I thought maybe I'd share a few images I took of her the other day just being herself. She's growing so quick and I cherish every moment with her. It's why I love to capture images for you... I know how fleeting these moments are and I want you to remember these times for a lifetime. It's what I want for myself and I strive to do the same for others. Without further ado...meet my lil' miss Lily!

Casting Call - Multiple Newborns { St. Louis Newborn Photographer }

Calling all mommies expecting twins and triplets! I'm offering a limited number of FREE sessions to build my portfolio of multiple newborns. Not only will your session be FREE, but you'll also receive a complimentary 11x14 enlargement of your choice from your session.

There are a few requirements...

1. Twins or triplets must be two weeks or younger, so you'll need to contact me BEFORE the lil' ones arrive.

2. Photo session will take place at your home and you'll need to set aside 3-5 hours for the actual shoot.

3. A signed model release is required.

Please keep in mind that I have not captured twins or triplet newborns before, so these sessions are for me to experiment with poses and figure what works best with these lil' delights on camera. So, you have to be up for anything and be willing to have fun in the process. My hope is that I'll get some awesome images for my portfolio and you'll get some amazing captured moments that'll last a lifetime!

I had such a fun time yesterday capturing lil' Xavier and his parents. This two week old is so adorable and very much loved. His parents told me that their lil' one hates being naked, but you'd never know it. He did great and seemed to enjoy the air on his skin very much. {Well, maybe it was the soft blanket that did him in...} Here are a few of my favorites from our session. Enjoy your sneak peek!

I did a magazine shoot back in November and have been eagerly waiting for the issue to arrive. So, imagine my excitement when I opened the mail this afternoon! After all, it's not every day you see your work on the cover of a magazine!

Digital Dealer is a publication from Dealer Communications for auto dealers. Every issue features one of America's most successful dealers and this month St. Louis' Anthony Bartoli, at Behlmann Automotive, takes the cover! Congratulations Anthony! It was so much fun photographing you and the gang!

This was the second and last drawing from the two screenings benefiting legalization of Midwifery in Missouri. I did the drawing the same as the week before to make sure everything was fair. Each card entered in the contest was assigned a number and then I let the computer do the random drawing for me.

Sweet 16 { St. Louis Teen Photographer }

I had such a fun session with beautiful Miss Allie the other day! She just turned 16 and wanted some pictures for her big party. I don't get to photograph many teens, so I was surprised that we accomplished so much in 20 minutes. This location rocked and I could've kept on shooting away if it weren't for the sun setting and the cold weather. Enjoy the sneak peek!

First Screening { St. Louis Infant / Baby Photographer }

The first screening of Orgasmic Birth took place last night at the Ethical Society! It was an honor to be a part of this great cause and to get to meet many of you for the first time. Yvonne Niemann Photography is proud to be one of the sponsors of the "Orgasmic Birth" screening put on by Friends of Missouri Midwives and Free the Midwives. This documentary, that was recently featured on 20/20, examines the powerful and intimate role birth plays in women's lives when they are permitted to experience it. There are two screenings in the St. Louis area, where I'll have a table set up showcasing my work and giving away a bunch of goodies that will give you great savings on future sessions and orders with Yvonne Niemann Photography. Lil' Miss Ella Turns Four Months! { St. Louis Infant / Baby / Newborn Photographer }
